75 Million Androids by 2012

There are about 200,000 new phones running Google’s Android software which are activated every day worldwide and has doubled the number two months back. And according to the research firm iSuppli, the abrupt increase is expecting Android to surpass Apple’s iOS in the next two years.  iSuppli estimates that there will be 75 million Android phones, including the popular Droid models from Motorola and HTC by 2012, compared  with 62 million iPhones in the same period.

Baidu, the leading search engine in China says that Google is benefiting from avoiding the country’s censorship laws. Google stopped censoring Chinese search results in March, opting to redirect users to its unfiltered Hong Kong site. While this may provide a cost advantage, it’s hard to argue that Baidu hasn’t benefited from Google’s standoff with Chinese authorities, analysts say. Baidu has gained market share, and its profit is projected to more than double this year.

Meanwhile, Silicon Valley executives head to Vail, Colo. next week for the annual Pacific Crest Technology Leadership Forum which Google, Yahoo, Intel and Electronics Arts all plan to make presentations at the event.
